FAQs

Is recycling actually good for the environment?

Yes. According to the EPA, recycling just 10 plastic bottles conserves enough energy to power a laptop for over 25 hours.

How does recycling save energy?

Making products out of virgin resources and processing them takes a lot of energy and burns fossil fuels. Recycling reduces the need for natural resources and the energy used to process them.

What is single-stream recycling?

Single-stream recycling allows materials like cardboard, paper, plastics, aluminum, and metal cans to be collected in one container and to go to one recycling facility.

Do you provide a bin for my recyclables?

BARCO does not provide containers. You will be responsible for purchasing your bin.

What kind of bin will I need?

You will need a 96-gallon polycart.

Can I put my recyclables in plastic bags?

No. All recyclables should be loose in the recycling bin.

Do I need to prepare my recyclables?

Yes. Items should be clear of any food waste or liquid. Cardboard boxes should be broken down. Paper, newspapers and junk mail can remain loose in the bin.

What type of metal can I put in my recycling bin?

Any aluminum or tin cans are acceptable. Other metals like appliances, automotive parts, or scrap metal are unacceptable.

What are large, rigid plastics?

Items like laundry baskets, toys (without motors), crates, plastic chairs, 5-gallon buckets, garbage cans/bins, and plastic lawn furniture are considered rigid plastics.

What are some rigid plastics that don’t qualify for recycling?

  • Flexible plastics — shower curtains and hoses for example
  • Toys with motors
  • Appliances
  • Coolers with styrofoam interior
  • Vinyl plastics — pipe, siding, lattice/fencing
  • Car seats

Our goal is to make recycling quick and easy for our customers.
